Building the archive
of a generation.

Collective Legacy is a professionally governed acquisition program dedicated to emerging Romanian contemporary artists. Through structured patronage, we are building the first coherent public archive of a generation.

01

The Institutional Gap

A generation of Romanian artists risks partial historical absence.

For over three decades, Romania has lacked a consistent public acquisition strategy for contemporary art. The National Museum of Contemporary Art resumed acquisitions only intermittently, with limited budgets and a focus largely on pre-1990 works.

The result: emerging artists remain under-documented. No coherent generational archive exists. Without structured acquisition today, the historical record of post-1989 art will be permanently fragmented.

"Every cultural institution begins with a first gesture. Every legacy begins with a decision to act early."

02

How the Program Works

A structured, transparent acquisition model.

Collective Legacy operates through two annual acquisition cycles. Each cycle opens with a national call, reviewed by an independent jury of curators, critics, collectors, and artists. Selections are public and documented.

01

Open National Call

Twice a year, an open submission call invites emerging Romanian artists — under 35, with no major national museum acquisition — to submit their work for jury consideration.

02

Independent Jury Review

An independent curatorial board evaluates submissions against published criteria. All jury members declare conflicts of interest before each cycle. Corporate partners have zero influence on artistic decisions.

03

Acquisition & Documentation

Selected works are acquired, condition-reported, professionally stored, and accessioned into the Collective Legacy Collection. Full provenance and metadata are documented to international archival standards.

04

Exhibition & Public Access

Each acquisition cycle concludes with a major Bucharest exhibition and national touring program. The public digital archive is updated after every cycle, with bilingual documentation for international audiences.

The Founding Moment

Not a sponsor.
A founder.

The brands that join now are not backing a programme. They become part of the founding layer of a national cultural infrastructure. The structures being laid down now — what gets collected, who gets documented, how a generation of artists is preserved — will stand for decades.

That record does not expire.
